How to Overcome Depression

There is actually a big difference between feeling depressed and suffering from depression (the correct medical term is clinical depression). But what exactly is clinical depression? Well it's normal to feel sad and depressed every now and then, sometimes if you're lucky that feeling will pass, but clinical depression is an illness which has many physical and emotional symptoms that affect your ability to work, sleep, eat or enjoy any positive aspects of life for example, and stays with you for quite a while until it is treated accordingly.

It is very common for people not to be sad when suffering from clinical depression; alternatively they feel lethargic, unable to enjoy life's experience. A person often just bottles up their emotions and goes through the motions of life, but this is a known cause and effect, the effect being pessimistic, whereby they over exaggerate their problems and become unable to solve them.

Unfortunately, some are not aware that there are several forms of depression, some more severe than others whereby the sufferer literally feels like they are living in a black hole, where nobody can leave or enter. Nevertheless, here are brief descriptions of different types of depression:

Major depression -

This is one of the more common and more severe forms of depression. The sufferer has a lack of interest in any social activities, disinterested in sexual activities or extreme decrease in weight. A major depression episode may last up to 6 months and then may experience a short spell of relief but this disorder is a common reoccurring disorder.

Dysthymia -

Dysthymia is not as severe as major depression; however it is a condition which unfortunately not many know if they are suffering from. They going through life discontented, lonely, unsocialable and frightened at time when in a crowded area believing that this is the norm. Medication has been recommended for this condition (antidepressants) however there are steps to take to overcome Dysthymia and other depressive states - see below.

Atypical Depression -

Atypical Depression is a variation of depressive states that fluctuate depending on what goes on in their lives, i.e. they believe that outside events control their moods (praise, rejection etc) Other symptom patterns can lead to increase of eating habits, heavy feeling of limbs and can become sensitive to rejection.

SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) -

SAD is depression that occurs when seasons change. So when it's winter (fall), usually an SAD sufferer will be discontent due to lack of sun. This will occur only until spring.

Here is a list of more signs and symptoms of depression we need to be aware of:

1. Sleep Disorder - either insomnia or constant oversleeping.

2. Lack of energy - simple tasks can be exhausting or takes longer to complete. Often feeling fatigued.

3. Concentration - Trouble remembering and loses focus.

4. Aches and Pains - Abdominal pains, backaches, headaches, diarrhoea or constipation.

5. Self-loathing - Feeling pessimistic resulting in harsh criticism and self worthlessness.

6. Petulant - Lashing out at other over small things, easily annoyed or frustrated.

7. Loss of interest - No interest in daily activities or social events.

8. Weight - A dramatic loss or gain of weight is a common signifier.

Here are some short tips on how to beat depression-

Thinking-

Control your thinking; remember depression is a mental disorder. So when you're down, don't say you're depressed, say your "feeling low", you can appreciate that there are "highs" as well as "lows" in life and that "lows" are more controllable.

Exercise-

You don't have to join a gym to exercise, go for a power walk round the block or run if you want. If you have a favourite sport, join up, you need to find way to enjoy and exploit what you love to do, this will give you more control over your life and health.

Reward-

Do not allow your loved ones and friends to reward you when feeling depressed, as much as it might think it helping you, unfortunately it maintains you depressed state. Do not allow them to do work or chores for you around your house or work. Ideally, they should encourage you to get up and get on with your life; this eliminates your depressive behaviour.

Positive-

Being positive means you have to accept some of the problems that will happen in your life. Part of being positive is the courage to face your problems and having the ability to tackle them step by step (make a list).

Progesterone Cream: Tips for Proper Usage

Instead of applying the progesterone cream directly, it can be used along with a moisturizing lotion. Lotions containing aloe vera oil usually work well and are easy to apply. After application, the medicine will be sent directly to the part where it is required.

Overdose of this cream can cause hyperactive senses and less dosage after the body gets used to a certain amount can lead to acute depression. It is very important to use the cream cautiously.

The cream should be applied at a particular time in a day. A physician, based on the tests, will have to decide when the best time is. The cream can be mixed with a small amount of moisturizer and massaged in circular motions till the cream is completely absorbed into the skin. The best places to apply the cream are where the skin would be soft to allow for easy absorption. Such areas of the body include the breasts, hands, inner thighs, and palms. Usually, the cream is applied twice a day or as advised by the physician.

During the menstruation cycle the body produces a large amount of progesterone so it is not advised to apply the cream during this time. The dosage of the cream should vary with time and conditions. Pregnant women can use the cream in a very small dosage to reduce stretch marks. However, progesterone must be used as prescribed by the doctor to avoid depression or PMS.

Women can start using progesterone cream a few years before menopause to minimize menopause effects such as insomnia, depression, stress, and fatigue. With expert medical advice on the correct usage of the progesterone cream, these effects can be curbed to a great extent.

How I Overcame Chronic Depression With Brainwave Entrainment Meditation

This is a little insight to my experience that brought me to Brainwave Entrainment Meditation. Due to a very unpleasant experience in my childhood, I suffered from Chronic Depression and Social Anxiety Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Fun, I know! ;)

I went to traditional therapy to attempt to overcome this. I was placed on various medications that produced even worse side-effects (Insomnia, Muscle Spasm, Loss of Appetite/Sex Drive to name a few!) And after years of this wonderful time, I still felt less than hopeful and was becoming more jaded by the day about ever truly feeling happy and alive.

One day, I decided that I had enough and I would no longer accept this as my day-to-day life. I did a search on the internet and found an amazing program that seemed to be beneficial toward eliminating what I was experiencing using a technology called Brainwave Entrainment in the form of a Meditation Program. Was I skeptical?! OH YES! But, as the saying goes.... "What did I have to lose?" ?? Nothing! I had everything to win and gain.

I began a daily practice of Meditation. I would sit each evening for one hour to focus on my emotional state and become more conscious of my thought processes. I listened to the CD audio that took me from a Beta frequency down to a Delta frequency within the first half hour and then kept me in the Delta state the entire second half hour. As I began this experience, I started to have random thoughts and memories come up that I had no recall of. Things that were deeply planted within my subconscious were coming to the surface of my awareness. I would allow them to be, without judgment, understanding that they had been in my unconscious and were driving the results of my reality. I felt blessed to be able to release them and know with full conviction that they would no longer be working in the background and keeping me from creating what I desired in life.

I kept up with this practice, and still practice, for 6 years now. Though, I didn't wait for life to happen. Each day was a new and rewarding experience. As more and more "garbage" was released my reality changed and altered, becoming something I had dreamt of for my entire life.

To make a really long and interesting journey short, let me just say this...

1. I truly eliminated depression, anxiety and fears out of my life. BYE BYE! (No more medications!)
2. I gained a renewed sense of wanting to be alive and participating in life.
3. I learned to love myself, maybe for the first time!
4. I attracted a very loving relationship and developed intimate friendships.
5. I allowed money into my life and abundance on other levels, too.

...I could go on and on about the numerous benefits I've experienced with Meditating with Brainwave Entrainment. I am so grateful that this worked for me.

I have come across many descriptions and heard numerous real-life experiences about PTSD - for me, this is the most important factor to look at when dealing with your depressive issues and anxiety.
What exactly IS PTSD? Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is the clinical definition.

It is literally the Disorder of Experiencing Stress after (Post) a Traumatic event (Car Accidents, Sexual Abuse, Going to War). Now, every Car Accident isn't going to be classified as Traumatic and it doesn't have to do with what actually happens, but more how the individual person reacts to that experience.

So, getting pulled over for a speeding ticket may be traumatic for someone (just an example) and for others' accidentally killing a deer may be traumatic! (speaking from my own experience - Sorry, Bambi!)

What are some symptoms of PTSD? PTSD can manifest as depression, anxiety, stress. Having flashbacks (mental images) of the experience is common. Having a sensitive nervous system - with the shakes and feeling numb in the body/mind. Random crying and extreme bouts of Anger, especially for me. It varies for each individual.

I told myself that I MUST write an article about my experience. I don't think anyone should ever have to be depressed to the point of not wanting to be involved with life. I just hope my story and experience will be able to help others feel hope that they truly can experience a different type of life - HAPPY! Blessings, Love and Light.

How to Manage and Conquer Depression

Millions of people suffer from a depressive illness. They thought that depression is just a normal occurrence in their lives, which will go away after a short while. They just haven't realized how serious depression can be.

Did you know that words related to depression have been searched over 993,000 times on the Internet for May 2005 alone? Much attention has been centered to this international health problem as the rigorous challenges of modern times continue to devastate those who cannot cope with it. Extreme depression can ultimately lead to suicide.

No one is safe from being affected by depression because it affects everyone. It doesn't matter whether you're a male or female, rich or poor, educated or uneducated. Once a person starts becoming depressed, he or she usually behaves in a manner that intensifies the illness.

HOW DOES DEPRESSION AFFECT THE INDIVIDUAL'S BEHAVIOR?
Depressed people have some or more of the following characteristics:

o They lose interest on their love life, career, friends, and family.

o They experience loneliness, hopelessness, gloom, and indifference to their surroundings. It is a feeling of extreme despair.

o They seek to escape from problems and even from life itself. Thoughts of leaving home, running away or avoidance of others is common. They feel life is hopeless and worthless. Suicidal thoughts are lurking in their minds.

o There is a tendency to escape from the company of others because of an unexplained fear of being rejected. Their withdrawal consequently brings on some rejection by other people. They cancel scheduled activities, become uninterested to return phone calls, and seek ways to avoid talking with or seeing others.

o They are overly sensitive to what others say and do. They may misinterpret actions and suggestions in a negative way and become irritable because of those mistaken assumptions. They complain and cry a lot.

o They have a general loss of self-esteem. They feel more and more negative about life's events, and they even question their own personal worth. Their self-confidence level is extremely low.

o They experience negative changes in physical activities--appetite, sleeping and sex. Some lose interest in sexual activities. Some lose interest in food while others gouge themselves with all the stuffs they can eat. Some sleep constantly while others cannot get to sleep easily, or they wake up in the middle of the night and cannot go back to sleep again.

o There is usually an underlying feeling of guilt. They often feel overly responsible for other people's feelings.

o Depression often makes the depressed dependent upon other people. This further aggravates a feeling of helplessness, which makes them more upset.

o They have difficulty expressing and handling their feelings. Anger is especially difficult for them to control. Because of a sense of worthlessness and lack of knowledge in dealing with their situation, they get more enraged in themselves. This can be directed outward at others.

Above ninety-five percent of even the most depressed individuals can be totally cured if the condition is identified at the early stages. It is essential to know and take action when the early warning signs of depression are manifesting.

Dealing with depression requires first and foremost an understanding that it is a common and treatable illness. Its symptoms include the following:

The amazing thing is, is that out of all the so-called 'mental illnesses' depression is the easiest to cure. So how come there are hundreds of thousands of people trapped in this very serious state of mind?

Regardless of age, status in the society, or profession, depression may affect anyone. It may exist at times of puberty, after childbirth and/or at mid-life. Thus, this health problem occurs at a specific period of time wherein circumstances of life may influence your mood. Immediate depression may be caused by particular events and losses such as death of a person close to you or reduction of your income. There are also other aspects to be considered, such as inherited factors associated with depression (a history of family depression) or other physical factors (abridged levels of neurotransmitters in the brain).

At various phases of our lives, we have all experienced being "down and troubled." It is due to the changes in our day-to-day living. It also affects our environment and interaction with others. Sometimes, events apparently cause us to be more upset and we become depressed for over a long period of time.

As everyday events influence our moods, some make the misconception of depression as temporary "blues" or sadness. It might be a normal grief caused by the death of your loved one. People with the "blues" and normal grief might experience short-term symptoms of depression.

MYTHS AND FALSE IMPRESSION

The term "depression" is used to express a depressed mood, simultaneously with other symptoms, that exist for a prolonged period of time. When depression is not cured, it may influence normal performance. It is important to recognize that depression is not a sign of frailty or a lack of determination, and not something that you can easily escape from. It is a condition that can be cured through proper treatment.

Because of the link between grief and depression, some make false impressions to both.
Here are some myths that needs to be cleared up.

Depressed People are Mentally Unstable and Inefficient.

As you might experience troubles in making decision and difficulty in concentration and memory, lack of knowledge and misinformation leads to the thought that depressed people are incompetent. This is certainly not true! Because depression is a treatable illness, it can be cured by your own determination and will power. It can be treated faster with the help of others.

Someone Must Have Brought the Depression.

All of us used to admire others and set them as our role models. They might be our parents or other famous personalities. Some people have been mistaken and blamed by others for causing depression. You must understand that depression is a health problem that can only be caused by yourself and nobody is to blame .

Depression is God's Way of Punishing for Some Wrong Act or Misbehavior.

This is a widespread belief in the midst of sufferers. If a person can't find the answer for his or her sufferings, then it might tend to make himself or herself more burdened by the depression, causing that person to find something wrong with himself or herself.

This piece of writing describes what depression is and looks at the common causes and symptoms, as well as some of the myths about depression.

No one should be ashamed of being depressed. It might seem so difficult and sometimes unbearable; to draw yourself out of a sinkhole of depression, but it is THE MOST TREATABLE EMOTIONAL PROBLEM. Always remember that you are not a terrible or hopeless person.

Particular self-help methods in this section will seem more suitable for you to use to cope up with your depression. You can try two or three and see if they work. If not, take a break on something else. In general, gaining some optimism about getting better, having a clear viewpoint, and getting family support, along with selected self-help methods, will lead to a better recovery from depression.

Remember - you are not alone in your troubles, and the best way to start is to try and share the load with somebody.

Tips for Personal Development and Goal Setting

The decision to make a concerted effort to improve yourself through personal development is a good one. Many people have improved their lives and have become success stories with the use of self help information.

It is important that you know that you must be truly dedicated to your pursuit of a happier, healthier and more successful life if you really expect a personal development regimen to work. Check out these personal growth and development tips and once you begin to implement them, you will be on your way to becoming a better and more successful you.

Decide What You Want
Before you can start working on becoming a personal success, you must know who it is that you want to be in life. Wisdom for success: It is important that you think about the personality traits of people who you feel are heroes or deserving of being emulated. You should take some time and write down the traits that they have and you would like to recreate. You can even go to some success secrets websites and read an inspirational message or two in order to motivate yourself and become inspired.

Construct a Plan
You need to construct a well thought out plan in order to succeed. You should use an inspirational saying that is appropriate for each of your individual goals and read it often. Think of this plan as a roadmap to finding the success for which you have been searching.

You will need to make a separate plan for each of the things that you want to achieve in your personal growth journey. Separate plans are necessary as your goals might not directly affect each other hence; you will need to be going in a variety of directions in order to see your plans to fruition.

Setting Your Goals
Proper goal setting is of the utmost importance. All too many people set their goals unrealistically such as finding the love of their lives in three months or losing one hundred pounds in a year. Wisdom for success: The goals that you set, must be truly attainable or your will be setting yourself up for failure.

Although the ending goals that you set should be high, you must create smaller goals or milestones to help you stay on the right track. These small milestones will help you to see that you are actually making headway and getting closer to your final goals. It is important that you continue reading the motivating quotes that you have chosen for your goals.

Many people seek to find a new inspirational message daily. They do this so that they do not get bored reading the same old inspiring quote over and over again. Fresh motivational quotes can keep you determined to succeed in your quest for becoming a better and happier you.

Once You Succeed
Very time that you complete a milestone or attain one of the personal growth goals that you have set for yourself, you should have a little reward. You could treat yourself to a shave at the barber shop or pamper yourself with a manicure and pedicure. The rewards don't have to be expensive. They should simply be something that you would enjoy and be a special treat for working so hard and doing so well.

It is important that you constantly add new goals to your plan. Considering that life is a constantly changing thing, you will need to change with it. This is done much easier if you continue goal setting throughout your life. You will be a better person because of it.

Can Depression Kill

O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee: Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry; For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave. I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength: Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand. Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps. Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah. Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee. Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah. Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction? Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? But unto thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee. LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me? I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted. Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off. They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together.

Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness. (King David, Ps 88:1-18 KJV)

Depression can take the light out of person's eye and rob a person of the pleasure involved in relationship but can it actually kill a person. King David, the great King of all Israel suffered from deep depression and his words certainly depict a man trapped in depression. Depression is real and it does kill. Is there a viable solution?

First, let me give you just a few facts on depression. It is a fact Clinical depression affects 15% of the population, and a third of all women. One of the reasons twice as many women as men suffer depression and anxiety, according to researchers at University College, London, is that women's traditional roles (taking care of the household, family finances and children) are under-valued. Men are also under pressure in an effort to balance family life with an increasingly competitive workplace, and are particularly vulnerable to depressive episodes after redundancy and retirement. The burden on the, often isolated, nuclear family is enormous, with little time left for the kids or relationships with friends and even extended family.

It is no secret, depression is the second biggest killer behind heart disease (itself a contributory factor in depression), and is increasing a staggering 23% per year in children, according to one Harvard University study.

The real catastrophe is the lack of effective available treatments, with many people led to believe that pills, or herbs or diet will do the trick. The truth is that antidepressants work for less than 50% of depressed people, and are about as effective as sugar pills. The FDA only recommends taking them for short periods. (This does not mean you should stop taking them abruptly, certainly not without medical supervision.) Even natural remedies, such as St. John's Wort, while they may not have nasty side effects, don't offer a long-term cure.

Psychiatrics suggest therapy along with medication, but the primary form of psychotherapy for depression, cognitive behavioral therapy, has a relapse rate of up to 80%, according to University of Washington researchers.

What is the solution to depression?

Is there a solution? Does an individual have to suffer this deadly disorder for the rest of their life? I firmly do not believe the "complete" answer to depression exists neither in a bottle of pills nor in cognitive therapy. I believe these treatments help and I am not saying stop taking pills with out your doctor's advice. God forbid that I usurp the authority of a medical doctor. In addition, I believe rational thinking helps if a person has the capacity to practice the principles of the therapy. Yet, these approaches are only slightly affective. How can we rid ourselves of these horrible feelings of worthlessness created by depressive episodes? How can we get out of the proverbial, "Dark Hole"?

I wish there was an easy answer to the above questions. It would be nice if taking a doze of Prozac, Zoloft, or other anti-depressants would work all the time every time but the sad truth is they don't. There is no easy answer, nor simply solution to depression. Many of the bible characters suffered from deep and lasting depression. David, Solomon, Jonah, and many others prayed to God to deliver them out of the darkness of depression and God did but God did it in His time not theirs.
Romans 15: 13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

I have suffered from deep, major depression and today I am free from depression. I do have my bad days but nothing like those "dark days" of deep feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, and pain. I believe medicine can help but it is a temporary fix and I believe truth therapy (not rational therapy) is essential but I think the biggest factor that helped me was faith.

During the days of deep depression, suicide attempts, and self-mutilation, I developed a faith in God. In fact, I came to trust in Him during the hardest days of my life. Looking back, I realize it was during the dark days, when I could not care for myself, He was actually carrying me through it all. Remember the poem, "foot prints in the sand." He was there all the time. If I had never had the problem with depression I would have never learned how I needed a relationship with my Creator. After many years of depression, I finally came out of the dark. However, it was in the pain that I discover my real need for a power, God, who could raise me out of the deep deadly pit of depression. I don't care to return to the dark hole so I do my best to turn my life over to His power and control on a daily basis. This has worked for a few years now and as long as this plan works and I will work the plan.

Christian Debt Consolidation - Clear Debts The Christian Way

Loans are available very easily these days as many payday loans and debts are offered by companies whose main aim is to scrap you of your hard earned money. Rather than the heavy payment mental frustration and depression are the results, when the payer is unable to payback the loans in time. The loan lending company on the other hand starts harassing the borrower for the due monthly payment.

Every month the borrower is then compelled to pay a heavy price for the loan that he received in haste. Loan consolidation is the only solution for this problem and many debt consolidation agencies today are just doing that. The Christian debt consolidation company in particular offers valuable services keeping in mind the principles of Christianity. Although these companies too strive to make money through you by providing loans, the Christian debt consolidation companies put your interest before their own financial gains.

Debt consolidation loans are available for a small fee and always check the authenticity of companies which advertise in the name of Christianity. Not all Christian debt consolidation companies are real. Some might operate just to allure people of the same faith and their main aim will be to make money or generate income in the name of a god or faith.

Consumer debt consolidation can either be secured or unsecured debt consolidation. The loans can be consolidated by offered any securities or one might just get a loan unsecured. However the loan amount to be repaid is first accessed and then a feasible consolidation is worked beneficial for both the lender and the borrower. The Christian debt consolidation company also offers free debt advice, which can also be availed to get advice and guidance on the financial management process.

Online debt consolidation and manual debt consolidation calculators are also available to personally calculate your loan repayment amount. On getting the consolidation quotes the borrower then decides upon the correct loan consolidation plane that is best suited to him and the right loan which is easy to pay every month. By and large the Christian debt consolidation services are very imperative for everyone who has loan and debt related problems. Most of all these services can be trusted as they are generally done in the name of the faith or religion and Christian debt consolidation is the one. So avail the benefit of one and enjoy trouble free life.
